Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd Bin Abdulaziz

King Fahd was born in Riyadh in 1340 AH (i.e., 1921). He received his early education at the school of princes, which had been established by his father in his palace for his children's primary education. He later attended the Saudi Institute in Makah.

When King Abdulaziz noticed talent and ambition in his young son, he began to train him in matters pertaining to politics and administration by including him in many of the Kingdom's official delegations such as the United Nations' founding conference held in San Francisco, USA in April 1364 AH (i.e., 1945). Fahd also led the official Saudi delegation to the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II of Britain in 1373 AH (i.e., 1953).

Among the most prominent positions held by the Custodian of the two Holy Mosques King Fahd is his appointment as the 1st Minister of Education, then Minister of the Interior  in 1382 AH (i.e., 1962), and Deputy Prime Minister of in 1387 AH (i.e., 1967) in addition to his post as Minister of the Interior.

The Haram construction and renovation projects to be carried out on the land surrounding the two holy mosques to allow the pilgrims, visitors, worshipers and residents to perform their religious rites in comfort and security are indelibly connected with the name of Custodian of the two Holy Mosques; a title he took officially for the Saudi monarch. The announcement for this change was made on the 24th of Safar 1407 AH (i.e., the 27th of October 1986).

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques is a benefactor to Arab and Islamic causes in which he always assumed a noble attitude. At the forefront is the Palestinian struggle, which he supported politically, materially and morally. His reign saw a period of civilized and wonderful renaissance in all areas of life; education made huge progress both in quantity and quality; construction boomed, and industrial output soared.

The Kingdom also witnessed giant advances in its agricultural development as the governments made great efforts in subsidizing agriculture production, especially in the field of wheat farming.

Quotes from King Fahd:
  • The kingdom is a Muslim Nation, created mainly to carry the banner of Islamic advocacy, honor Allah and serve his House and the Prophet's Mosque. God has thus increased the magnitude of our responsibility and duties. The Kingdom must carry out those duties at the international level in accordance with Allah’s orders.
  • We do not claim superiority, but I assure this country relies on the Islamic faith and creed. This can only lead to progress and the advances in the welfare of its citizens in all areas.
  • Look at the progress we made in sciences, physics and health, and remember where we were in the past, when our country was nothing but a desert. It is incredible that during such a short period of time we witnessed such a glorious renaissance. All thanks to God and our reliance on the Holy Book and the Sunna of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).
